The six-member JIT headed by FIA Additional Director Wajid Zia submitted its final report to the three-member Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal, Justice Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan.

Meanwhile while hearing of Panama Verdict Implementation Case, the bench head Justice Ejaz Afzal ordered to make public name of the person responsible for Hussain Nawaz’s picture leak, and said that there was no need to constitute any Commission on the issue.

The Supreme Court special bench also ordered to register a Case against Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman Zafar Hijazi as per recommendations by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) following its investigation into tampering the record of Chaudhry Sugar Mill Limited owned by Sharif family.

Justice Ejaz Afzal said that the SECP Chairman pressurized his subordinates, and threatened them.

The special bench also took notice of media reports and observed that constantly false news were being reported by Jang group. The bench also issued show cause notice to Jang group Editor-in-Chief Mir Shakeelur Rehman, Publisher Mir Javedur Rehman, and reporter Ahmed Noorani, and asked them to submit a reply in seven days.

Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked that the Jang group reporter Ahmed Noorani tried to approach him twice. Justice Ejaz Afzal said that he replied to the reporter that he would only comment in the Court.

Justice Azmat Saeed remarked that how a reporter dared to approach a sitting Supreme Court judge, saying it was an open contempt of court.

The bench also summoned the transcript of speeches of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Special Assistant on Political Affairs Asif Kirmani, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Talal Chaudhry.

The JIT head Wajid Zia told the bench that that report contained 10 volumes and requested the bench not to make the 10th volume public as it included foreign legal assistance and it would be used for further investigation.

The special bench asked parties to collect the copy of JIT report from the Registrar Office.

Later, the hearing was adjourned till Monday.

Prior to it, the JIT already submitted its three periodic reports (first on May 22, second on June 7 and third on June 22) to the bench.

Sources said that details of investigation from Qatari Prince Hamad Bin Jasim Bin Jaber Al Thani and all the reasons behind the Dubai money trail were written in the report. Likewise, in the last 15-day report, statements regarding political environment and threats given to the JIT members were also quoted.

During the probe conducted by the JIT, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s elder son Hussain Nawaz appeared six times before the Investigation Team, spending almost 25 hours at the Federal Judicial Academy which had been declared JIT’s Secretariat.

The prime minister’s younger son Hassan Nawaz went through the investigation process three times while Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif himself, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Maryam Nawaz, Captain (retd) Safdar appeared before the JIT separately once.

Similarly, Rehman Malik, the prime minister’s cousin Tariq Shafi (twice), friend Javed Kayani, National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) CEO Saeed Ahmed and former Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Amjad Naqvi among other concerned persons also appeared before the JIT.

The JIT was formed by the Supreme Court comprising one representative each from six institutions including State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), SECP, NAB, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI).

On Saturday, the federal government in a press conference raised serious concerns over the conduct of JIT, and also declined to accept the JIT report if the statement of Qatari prince was not made part of it.
