NationalNo suspension of internet services on elections day: PTA

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has reportedly said that there would be no internet outage on February 08 as the Country braces to hold the general elections.

In various posts on the microblogging site X on Wednesday, reporters said that as per the PTA, no instruction has been received from the government as yet regarding the blockage of internet services on election day.

Earlier, the Amnesty International, along with several other human rights organizations, called on Pakistani authorities to guarantee uninterrupted access to the internet and digital communication platforms for everyone across the Country.

In light of the statement by the Caretaker Interior Minister Gohar Ejaz saying that internet disruptions and shutdowns are a possibility during the 8 February general election, the Amnesty International urged the Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure people across the Country have full access to the internet and social media platforms to exercise their right to freedom of expression and freely share and access information.
