KARACHI, Pakistan: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the first phase of 75 kilometre-long section of six-lane Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway (M-9).

Earlier, the prime minister reached Karachi on a day-long visit wherein at the airport, the Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair and the Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah received him.

The 75-kilometre completed section of M-9 from Lucky Cement has four interchanges i.e. Dada Bhoy Interchange, Industrial Valley Interchange, Nooriabad Interchange and Thano Bola Khan Interchange.

These interchanges will provide access to various areas including Keer Thar National Park, Jhmpeer, Kinjhar Jheel and Thano Ahmed Khan.

In addition, five bridges and two trauma centres at Nooriabad and Damba Goth have also been completed.

The 136 km Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway project was commenced on September 17, 2015 which is expected to be completed by March 17, 2018 at a cost of Rs36 billion.

The construction on 120 km has started including interchanges, five bridges, 197 km service road and plantation on 40 km.
