ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif would represent Pakistan at the meeting of Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) being held in Beijing from April 23-24, 2018.

The Council of Foreign Ministers will discuss issues related to peace and security at the international and regional level and promotion of cooperation between member states and finalize preparations for the forthcoming SCO Heads of State Council in Qingdao, a City in China’s Eastern Shandong Province.

Khawaja Asif will also have a bilateral meeting with the Chinese State Councilor and the Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Foreign Office Spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal said in Islamabad on Thursday.

Besides Khawaja Asif, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, the Tajik Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Aslov, the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Erlan Abdyldaev, and the Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov will also attend the meeting of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers.

Likewise, the SCO Secretary General Rashid Alimov and the Director of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) Executive Committee Yevgeniy Sysoyev will also attend the meeting.

“They will exchange opinions on SCO cooperation in various fields as well as major international and regional issues,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a daily press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

“We hope that all sides can take this meeting as an opportunity to build consensus and roll out more cooperation measures to ensure the success of the summit and better development of the SCO,” Hua Chunying said.
