ISLAMABAD: Indian forces resorted to unprovoked firing of heavy weapons including mortars across the border on Saturday, killing a civilian and injuring two others, a Pakistani military official said.

The official said that a civilian was killed and two others were injured “due to unprovoked firing of heavy weapons including mortars by Indian Border Security Forces” near Sialkot.

The incident comes just weeks after the prime ministers of the two neighboring countries pledged to restore calm along the Line of Control (LoC), the heavily militarised de facto border in Kashmir, at a meeting in New York.
