UTTAR PRADESH, India: A group of four men gang-raped a class XII student in a moving vehicle in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut town after they offered her a lift after befriending her by referring to her chatting on a social networking site, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening when the 12-year-old girl was returning to her Shashtri Nagar house after attending coaching classes when the accused offered her a lift in their sports utility vehicle, police said.

According to police, the accused referred to the girl’s chatting on her Facebook account to win her trust and make her accept their offer to give her a lift in their vehicle.

After covering some distance, the driver turned the vehicle towards an abandoned spot where the four accused gang-raped her.

Later, they dumped her near PVS Mall in the town, about 70 km from the national capital, police said.

On the following day, the accused reached the girl’s house and threatened to kill her along with her younger brother if she revealed the ordeal to anyone, police said.

A case has been registered against the four accused at Nochandi police station, police said, adding that all the four accused are yet to be arrested.

“We are investigating the case and all four accused would be arrested soon,” said Vikas Chand Tripathi, circle officer, Brahampuri.
