Independence Day celebrations begin across country

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: In order to celebrate the 68th Independence Day of Pakistan in a befitting manner, a range of special ceremonies have begun across the country on Friday by the government.

The special ceremonies will continue throughout August, highlighting the struggle of our forefathers for an independent country and the sacrifices rendered by martyrs for this national cause.

The government has asked all the Pakistanis to raise national flag on their homes and vehicles to send a message of unity and solidarity to the internal and external enemies of Pakistan.

A special parade and a fly past would be held in Islamabad on the night of August 13 and 14 while a traditional Independence Day ceremony would also be arranged on the morning of August 14.

The government will encourage the civil society, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), bars, professional organizations and religious leaders to ensure maximum participation in the Independence Day celebrations.

The government also plans to hold special programmes for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the North Waziristan tribal region to express solidarity with them and the armed forces of Pakistan.

The Pakistan Railways would run an Azadi Train from Peshawar on August 11 that would reach Karachi on September 11 after covering a distance of 4,000 kilometers.

Moreover, sports competitions will also be held at district and tehsil level in connection with the Independence Day celebrations.
