LAHORE, Pakistan: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Saturday evening formally inaugurated the Greater Iqbal Park in Lahore.

Besides providing entertainment to the citizens, the park will also become a new landmark of Pakistan’s culture.

Along with renovation of the Minar-i-Pakistan, the project features expansion of the Iqbal Park by including it in the stretch of Circular Road between the park and Lahore Fort.

The 125-acre green oasis is surrounded almost entirely by the old city of Lahore.

Visitors can lounge on rolling lawns and have the panoramic view of the symbolic Minar-e-Pakistan, the majestic Lahore Fort, the iconic Azadi Interchange and the historic Badshahi Mosque that also shelters the tomb of Allama Iqbal.

Beautiful dancing fountains with colourful lights had also been installed at the Greater Iqbal Park.

On Wednesday while presiding over a meeting in Lahore to review inaugural arrangements at Greater Iqbal Park, Lahore division Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sunbal said that newly-built Greater Iqbal Park would be proved a milestone for the culture, history and heritage of the country.

The Lahore division Commissioner Abdullah said that besides its own security measures, the park’s security had also been associated with Safe City project.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
