ISLAMABAD: The federal government is aiming at execution of 33 new development schemes in the higher education sector to help realize the target of enhancing access of youth to higher education from the existing 10 to 15 percent in 2020.

The schemes relate to provision of academic infrastructure‚ lab‚ and research equipment for faculty development, a spokesman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) said.

The HEC spokesman said during the last five years‚ 672 scholars were sent abroad on foreign scholarships to pursue their PhD studies.

During the same period‚ he said, 1,255 scholars also completed PhDs and returned to home.

The spokesman said an integrated system for teachers training has also been evolved.
