US views Nawaz govt as a reliable partner, Dobbins tells Nisar

ISLAMABAD: The US special representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan James Dobbins said on Thursday that the US views Nawaz Sharif government as a reliable partner in pursuit of peace and was committed to a multi-faceted and long-term relationship with Pakistan.

Dobbins made these remarks in a meeting with the interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali in Islamabad on Thursday which discussed overall regional situation.

The US special representative eulogized the role of Pakistan both as an ally and as a major player in the region for peace and stability. He said that Pakistan’s importance was going to multiply in the aftermath of the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan.

The interior minister emphasized the need for openness and transparency in relationship and demanded a genuine and honest appraisal and appreciation of Pakistan’s role without which the relationship can never be substantive or proactive.

During the meeting, iy was agreed to maintain close interaction both at policy level and in term of areas of close cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard G Olson.
