KARACHI, Pakistan: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has agreed to continue the dialogue process over its members’ resignations issue after a positive progress was made in today’s talks.

The agreement came when the MQM leadership and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) delegation led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman met at the MQM headquarters Nine Zero in Karachi on Tuesday, aiming to convince them to withdraw their resignations from the Parliament.

Later in a joint news conference after talks with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the MQM leader Farooq Sattar said that there is a positive progress to resolve the issue of resignation of MQM members.

Farooq Sattar said that the JUI-F Chief asked them to play their role in the Parliament for the stability and promotion of the political and democratic process in the country.

The MQM leader aid that his party gives due weightage to his talk and expressed the hope that they will take the process of negotiation forward.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the next round of talks with the MQM on the issue will be held in Islamabad. He appreciate the positive attitude of the MQM leadership even after the firing incident on their member took place.

Earlier, when the two sides were holding talks on the MQM members’ resignation issues, the MQM leader Rashid Godil was shot in Bahadurabad area of Karachi. The MQM leader sustained critical injuries while his driver was killed in the firing incident.

Farooq Sattar told newsmen that the attack on MNA Rashid Godil took place when the two sides were engaged in a constructive process in finding solution of resignation issue.

While in his remarks about the attack on Rashid Godil, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that cowardly effort has been made to sabotage the negotiation process.

Last week, the MQM lawmakers tendered their resignations from the National Assembly, Senate and the Sindh Assembly as to express their reservations over the Rangers-led operation in Karachi.
