Prior to being posted as the new ISI Chief, Lt General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum was serving as the Corp Commander Karachi.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in its statement issued on October 6 stated that Lt General Muhammad Saeed had been posted as the Corps Commander Karachi and Lt General Noman Mahmood has been posted as the President National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad.

The ISPR said that Major General Asim Malik had been promoted as Lieutenant General and appointed as the Adjutant General at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. Similarly, Lt General Faiz Hameed was posted as the Corps Commander Peshawar and Lt General Muhammad Amir has been posted as the Corps Commander Gujranwala while Lt General Asim Munir has been posted as the Quarter Master General (QMG).

This is the first time in Pakistan’s history that name of the new DG ISI had been withheld after the announcement of ISPR.

After the announcement of ISPR, PM Office did not accept the decision and Prime Minister Imran Khan in Cabinet meeting stated that posting of DG ISI was the prerogative of the Prime Minister not of the Army Chief and stated that no approval was taken by the Army before releasing the name in Media. Now Ministry of Defence has sent a Summary for the approval of the Prime Minister for New DG ISI.

Earlier today, the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain said that the process of consultation on the appointment of the new Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has been completed between Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

In a Twitter statement on Wednesday, the information minister said that the process has been started to appoint the new ISI Chief.

“Sources said that the notification regarding the appointment of the new DG ISI is likely to be issued after approval of Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday. The summary includes the names of Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum and Lt Gen Sarfaraz,” reports 92News.
