LAHORE: The nation is observing Yaum-e-Takbeer with national zeal and fervor on Tuesday  to celebrate 1998 nuclear tests under the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Pakistan conducted successful nuclear tests on 28th May 1998 in response to Indian atomic provocation‚ which created regional imbalance when it tested 5 underground atomic blasts on 11th May‚ 1998 under the supervision of nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan.

Pakistani political leadership at that time took the decision to equally respond to Indian atomic provocation and carried out with 6 nuclear blasts at Chaghi depite international pressure.

After successful nuclear explosions‚ Pakistan became the 7th atomic power in the world and first in Muslim Ummah.

In response to these nuclear explosions‚ Pakistani nation had to face economic sanctions imposed by the international community but it stood by its principled stand on the issue of national deterrence.

Pakistan’s state television and private channels will broadcast special programmes today.

Special functions have been arranged in various cities including Islamabad and Lahore today to mark the day.
