Nawaz Sharif stresses collective efforts to increase Pak-Tajikistan trade

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has underlined the need for making collective efforts to increase Pakistan-Tajikistan bilateral trade as he met Tajik President Imam Ali Romanov to discuss matters of bilateral interest and ways to expand mutual cooperation in various fields.

In a meeting with the Tajik president which was held in Dushanbe on Tuesday, the prime minister said that the main thrust of our engagement is on trade, investment, energy, connectivity, people to people contacts, tourism and culture.

The prime minister said that there should be regular exchanges of parliamentary friendship groups to take our friendship to grassroots level.

On the occasion, the Tajik president said that relations between Tajikistan and Pakistan have a long history based on shared culture and a common religion.

The Tajik president said that relations with Pakistan is one of the priorities of Tajikistan foreign policy. He said that more than 40 bilateral agreements have been signed so far between our two countries since early 1990s.

Moreover, he also accepted the prime minister’s invitation to him for visiting Pakistan.

Earlier shortly after his arrival in Dushanbe, Nawaz Sharif attended the International Conference on the Implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Life,” 2005-15.

The Pakistani premier is undertaking a two-day official visit to Tajikistan at the invitation of his Tajik Counterpart Qohir Rasulzoda.

During the visit, Nawaz Sharif will also have delegation-level talks with the Tajik President Imam Ali Romanov to discuss the whole range of bilateral cooperation including the energy, power and connectivity sectors.
