QUETTA, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed all the provinces to speed up the implementation on national action plan (NAP) in order to root out the curse of terrorism and extremism from the country.

In a meeting of the Balochistan apex committee at the Governor House in Quetta on Wednesday, the prime minister said that practical results of implementation should be witnessed clearly.

The prime minister said that the government has the responsibility to enforce and implement the anti-terror national action plan.

Nawaz Sharif said that the NAP was formulated with consensus of the political and military leadership. He said that all those concerned are playing their role and we have to complement each other’s efforts.

The meeting was attended by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, DG Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asim Bajwa, Governor Balochistan Muhammad Khan Achakzai, Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Malik Baloch, Federal Ministers Khawaja Asif & Khawaja Saad Rafique and other high-ranking officials.

During the meeting, the Home Secretary Balochistan Akbar Hussain Durrani briefed the participants of the meeting over the implementation of the NAP and overall law & order situation in Balochistan.

The participants were informed that the Balochistan government has referred 53 cases of terrorism to military courts for trial. They were told that more than 2,000 suspects were apprehended by law enforcement agencies in the province since the launching of the NAP in December last year.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
