Nawaz says Pakistan eager to see prosperous Central Asia

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is eager to see a prosperous Central Asia with all countries connected by rail, road and air links and generating business.

In a meeting with President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambaev in Bishkek on Thursday, he said that Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations will continue to move from strength to strength.

“We must ensure that our special ties are transformed into a strategic partnership encompassing all areas of bilateral relations,” the premier said.

The prime minister said that the existing trade volume is not equivalent to the actual potential that exists between the two countries. He said

“We should work to increase it,” he said.

Nawaz Sharif appreciated Kyrgyz president’s leadership under which the country has seen remarkable development since independence.

Separately, the prime minister also held a meeting with the Speaker of Kyrgyzstan Parliament Asylbek Jeenbekov in Bishkek.

During the meeting, the prime minister admired the progress achieved by the people of Kyrgyzstan towards high ideals of democracy.

The prime minister said that there should be regular exchanges between the parliaments of Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan. He said that both the countries should take advantage of each other’s expertise in parliamentary field.

Sharif said that the interaction would provide both the countries good opportunity to understand legislative and administrative proficiency of each other.
