Muhammad bin Nayef named as new Saudi crown prince, Adel al-Jubeir as FM

RIYADH, Saudi Arab: The Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States Adel al-Jubeir has been appointed as the Kingdom’s new foreign minister while Muhammad bin Nayef bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud has become the Crown Prince.

Jubeir has replaced Prince Saud al-Faisal after the later requested the Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz to relive him of his responsibilities on health grounds, according to a royal decree issue early on Wednesday.

On the other hand, Muhammad bin Nayef bin has replaced Prince Moqren bin Abdul Aziz bin Saud.

“We have decided to respond to his highness and what he had expressed about his desire to be relieved from the position of crown prince,” a statement from the royal court said according to the official Saudi Press Agency.

The 69-year-old Muqrin was also relieved of his position as deputy prime minister.

Now Muhammad bin Nayef will act as deputy prime minister and will continue to hold his position of interior minister and head of the political and security council

Likewise according to the royal decree, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is King Salman’s son and is in his early 30s, will now be deputy crown prince. He also continues to be minister of defence and head of the economic and development council.
