LHC allows PTI to hold long march, but rules against sit-in

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday stopped the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) from holding their scheduled long march towards the federal capital on August 14 and staging sit-in there in an ‘unconstitutional’ manner.

“The respondents PTI and PAT are restrained meanwhile from launching the azadi march, inquilab march or holding a dharna at Islamabad in an unconstitutional way keeping in view the sanctity of independence day and the chaotic and uncertain situation prevailing in the country,” reads an order issued by a three-member bench of the LHC.

The bench ruled that any march that causes anarchy or is unconstitutional is not allowed. It also said that sit-ins are prohibited.

The LHC also upheld its decision to remove containers placed as blockades across the Punjab province.

The verdict came shortly after the federal government reportedly allowed the PTI to hold its long march towards Islamabad.
