ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaque Ahmed has said that cell phone services would not be suspended on May 11, the day when general elections for National Assembly and four provincial assemblies will be held across Pakistan.He said information about the polling stations could be ascertained on mobile phone by SMS on 8300 from Monday morning. He said the polling schemes have been completed throughout the country.

Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Ishtiaque Ahmed has said that all the polling stations should be established in accordance to the Commission’s directives.

Talking to media after a meeting in Islamabad this afternoon he explained that provision of security to the contesting candidates‚ political leaders‚ voters and polling staff is the sole responsibility of the provincial and the federal governments. He expressed the hope that all the arrangements regarding the provision of security would be made in accordance to the given plan and earlier meetings in this connection.

The Secretary said that the Election Commission is ready to hold elections‚ and no government would like that elections should not be held. He said despite all difficulties the Election Commission is moving towards the elections.

He said all the political parties should also ensure the security of the polling staff and the polling stations.
