Chinese President will not visit Pakistan on March 23: Sartaj

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The prime minister’s advisor on foreign affairs and national security Sartaj Aziz has said that the Chinese President Xi Jinping will not visit Pakistan on March 23; however, he is expected to arrive in Islamabad soon.

Earlier, it was reported by media citing diplomatic sources said that the Chinese President was expected to attend the Pakistan Day parade scheduled on March 23 in Islamabad.

Talking to media representatives in Islamabad on Friday, the advisor said that Pakistan and China are in contact to finalize a date for President Xi Jinping’s visit.

The Chinese president was scheduled to visit Pakistan in September last year but later the governments of Pakistan and China mutually agreed to postpone his visit in view of the political situation at that time in Pakistan.

The advisor further said that Pakistan and Afghanistan are cooperating with each other on terrorist attack on the army public school in Peshawar.

On February 13, in a meeting with the Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, who was in Islamabad on a two-day official visit, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan was eagerly looking forward to welcoming President Xi Jinping to the country.

The prime minister said that the government believed this important visit would further strengthen the all-weather strategic partnership between the two countries.
