ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Friday reached Gawadar after visiting Talar and Turabt, said a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

During his visits, the COAS while talking to Baloch elders said that he is fully confident that 2016 will be year of elimination of terrorism.

“This will also be year of national solidarity,” General Raheel said.

“Inshallah we will be able to break the webs of curses like terrorism, crime and corruption with the support and backing of the entire nation whereby paving the way towards dispensation of justice thus achieving lasting peace,” he added.

The armed forces of the country have been carrying out full-fledged operations like Zarb-e-Azb across the country especially in the northwestern volatile tribal region since 2014 to wipe out terrorism from the country.

In addition, a 20-point anti-terror national action plan is also being implemented across the country as a part of efforts to get rid of this menace.

Meanwhile, the COAS on Friday confirmed death sentences awarded to nine hardcore terrorists who were guilty of committing heinous offences.

In a statement, the ISPR said that the convicts were found involved in henious terror acts including attack on Parade Lane Mosque Rawalpindi, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Headquarters Multan, attacks on Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), kidnapping and killing civilians in Lahore.
