ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman said Tuesday the government has waived fee for 5125 students of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) under the Prime Minister Fee Reimbursement Scheme.

Speaking in the question-hour session in the Senate, the minister said these students were enrolled in public sector universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Masters, MS/M.Phil and everywhere in Pakistan for PhD.

He said the scheme had been launched through Higher Education Commission to waive the fee for Masters, MS/M.Phil. & Ph.D. students belonging to less developed areas of the country.

Giving details, he said the 3550 FATA students enrolled for Masters, 1353 for MS/M.Phil and 222 students for PhD benefited from the scheme during the last three years.

He said a total of 3142 Ph.D students of the less developed areas benefitted from the scheme and of these, 1068 students were enrolled in universities outside their domiciled province.

As regards Masters, MS/M.Phil. studies, he said over 80936 students had benefitted under the scheme during last three years and the details of such students who were studying outside their domiciled district were not readily available and were being complied.

He said under the scheme, students with domicile and local certificate of approved areas enrolled in Masters, MS/M.Phil. programs in Public Sector University located in their respective Division or next closet Division, only in case of no public sector university in their respective district or division were eligible except for students of FATA were eligible if studying in any Public Sector University of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Whereas, students of approved areas enrolled in Ph.D. programme in any Public Sector University of Pakistan were eligible under the scheme.
