PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Atif Khan has directed the authorities for including such projects in the annual development programme of the department for the year 2017-18 which will reflect the public interest and policies of the provincial government.

He issued these directives while presiding over a meeting regarding next Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the year 2017-18 in Peshawar on Wednesday.

Besides, Secretary, Elementary and Secondary Education, Dr. Shehzad Bangash and Special Secretary, Qaiser Alam other officials of the department also attended.

The meeting was told, new ADP will be comprised of the reconstruction of 300 schools, conversion of 100 Maktub schools into primary schools, rehabilitation of schools destroyed in the earthquake of 2015 and constructed of 100 new need based schools, improvement in the labs of two schools in each tehsil and construction of buildings for schools established in rented buildings and up-gradation of PITE projects.

In his short speech, the Provincial Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education directed the concerned authorities to instead of establishing new schools they should concentrate on the maintenance of the existing schools and especially on those schools where the number of students is higher and if possible construct 2 or 3 storey buildings for them.

Atif Khan said that in the new financial year an amount of Rs 15 billion will be spent on the construction of 720 schools while the establishing of 1548 IT labs in schools during the period of next three years. The programme will incurred Rs 3 billion.
