ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister of State for Federal Education Engineer Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman Wednesday proposed Higher Education Commission (HEC) to provide facilities to students with special needs/disability.

According to a news release here, the minister of state said that special people have special needs and it is the responsibility of an educated society to help these special people to fulfill their needs.

He said that HEC deals with all the public sector universities, so it is being proposed that following steps may be taken in order to address the needs of special people.

A policy for facilitation of special people may be prepared and shared with all the universities, the recurring grant formula should also be included in this criteria.

A weighage should be given to those universities who comply with the policy. Those universities which provide best facilities may be recognized by conferring awards upon them.

Minister of State also directed Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Dr. Shahid Siddique and Chairman Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) Dr. Ikram Ali Malik to draft a proposal for professional development and social welfare of employees along with the provision of financial assistance for talented and needy students.
