ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has re-launched special M.Phil (Professional track) degree program for the practicing journalists.

Those who have done their master in mass communication/media studies could take the admission in the current semester, 2018, a news release said on Thursday. The last date for the admission is March, 30.

The program is aimed at providing special opportunity to media personnel to upgrade their academic qualification.

The University introduced the M.Phil (Professional track) on the initiative of the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui who wished that the working journalists should not face competition with regular students in taking admission for higher study.

As per the laid laid-down teaching practices, senior media practitioners will be invited at the academic workshops during the study period, to share their working experience and expertise with their fellow colleagues.

The AIOU, being media-based institution provide education to the people through distance-learning serve the journalist community by meeting their professional requirements.

Appreciating media support for the University, Dr Shahid Siddiqui said he believes that the media has emerged as most strong social institution, and there is need, both media and academia work together for the cause of education.

The AIOU has shown a remarkable progress during the last three and half years for providing affordable education to all sections of the people across the Country.
