ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has completed initial work to start LLB classes from next semester.

The statuary body of the University has already approved the programme and the university is now in process of finalizing matters relating to its faculty and course material, said a press release.

A separate space for this purpose has been earmarked at the University’s main Campus (Academic block), said Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui, in a statement here Monday.

It will be a face-to-face quality program that is being designed in manner to produce lawyers of high professional standard.

The space allocated for this purpose will have special symbolic `Court-Room’, enabling the law students to acquaint themselves with the actual court’s proceeding. A new lecture series `Law and Society has been started to hold discussion on LLB-related topics and to get necessary feed-back.

Dr Shahid Siddiqui said the University’s Central library is being equipped with necessary law books, courts’ cases and other relevant material.

Initially, this program will be started with a limited number of students from Rawalpindi and Islamabad region.

The Varsity will soon consult Pakistan Bar Council and members of legal community to seek their support and guidance for formally launching the LLB programme on efficient manner.

It will also arrange regular visits of the law students to Superior courts for their proper professional development. The country’s renowned lawyers and jurists will be included in the visiting teaching faculty.

This program is not meant to earn money but to enhance the academic status of this Mega University, he added.

It may be mentioned here that AIOU is already successfully running LLM (in shariah) classes which attract a good number of students every year.

The professional standard of this program was well recognized home and abroad.
