Education314 unregistered madaris exist in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 314 unregistered madaris (religious seminaries) are operating in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), the Senate was told on Tuesday.

“The number of unregistered madaris in Islamabad as per the report of Counter Terrorism Department is 314,” the Minister for Interior told the Senate in reply to a question by Senator Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur.

The minister told that the number of registered madaris with the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training is 180 under the Societies Act, 1860.

Whereas the total number of students enrolled in these madaris are 46,679.

The House was apprised that the fresh registration of madaris is now being carried out under the ICT Charities Act 2021 as outlined by Section 2(b) and Section 5(2) of said Act.

Furthermore, it was told that the registration authority in the ICT is the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training.
