ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has accorded its consent to Karachi’s Greater Water Supply Project (K-IV) worth Rs 126 billion.

In a Twitter statement on Monday, the Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar said that the K-IV project has been in the doldrums for decades; however, now with a revised design, it has been approved by the ECNEC.

Asad Umar hoped that by October 2023, 260 million gallons of water will be supplied to Karachi.

The minister said that the federal government has fulfilled another promise under the Karachi Transformation Plan.

In its meeting, the ECNEC also approved Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway to be built under the Public-Private Partnership.

Asad Umar said that the Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway project will be completed in 30 months at a cost of Rs 96 billion.

In his Twitter statement, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that people living in 42 National Assembly Constituencies will benefit from the Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway.

The information minister said that after the opening of the motorway, the distance between Lahore and Islamabad would be reduced by 100 kilometers.

Meanwhile, in its meeting, the ECNEC also approved Punjab’s four major road infrastructure projects costing Rs 130 billion and the clean water and sanitation project worth Rs 96 billion for rural areas of South Punjab’s 16 tehsils.
