Baku, Azerbaijan: Heydar Aliyev International Baku Airport records traffic of 3.50 million passengers in first nine months of year 2017.

Baku is becoming one of the top destinations among Central Asian States and airport was named the best airport among Russia and CIS countries in March 2017.

Official data recorded an increase of 20 percent compared to the same period last year and exceeded the total statistics for the entire 2016 year.

Heydar Aliyev International Airport is recorded an exceptional increase in international travel as 85% of total passengers reached Baku Airport by international flights.

Airport is becoming popular among international air carriers as 49.4% of total load was carried by foreign airliners. It may be mentioned that 30 foreign airlines are using Baku Airport for reaching 53 destinations. Massive traffic of passengers comes from Moscow, Istanbul, Dubai, Kiev, Tehran, Antalya, Tbilisi, Doha and St. Petersburg. As many as 2.1 million passengers traveled to and from Moscow, Istanbul, Dubai, Kiev, Tehran, Antalya, Tbilisi, Doha and St. Petersburg.

It is pertinent to mention that new airport terminal of Heydar Aliyev Baku Airport (Terminal 1) became operational in April 2014. State of the art terminal is constructed over 65,000 square meters.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
