ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal on Friday held a telephonic conversation with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak and assured him to remove his reservations regarding the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project as these were due to some misunderstandings.
Talking to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, the federal minister said that the $46 billion CPEC was a national project which would equally benefit people of all the provinces including KPK.
Iqbal said that the federal government could not even think about injustice to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Earlier on Thursday, Pervaiz Khattak warned the federal government through against any deception on the CPEC project.
“I warn if the federal government does not address the reservations of KPK about the (CPEC) project, then we will take an extreme step. And you (centre) will see what we are going to do,” Khattak said at a news conference in Peshawar.
“The KPK demand is very simple: implement the decisions of the ‘All-Party Conference’ held in Islamabad on May 28 and build complete corridor. We don’t need a highway,” he added.
Khattak said that if the federal government wanted to build a highway only, then the province had sufficient resources to do so on its own.
