PM Nawaz, Army Chief to pay day-long visit to Saudi Arabia tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif accompanied by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif will pay a day-long visit to Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

In a high level consultative meeting held in Islamabad to discuss the latest situation in Yemen, the decision to this effect was taken.

During the visit, the prime minister will also be accompanied by the Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.

The prime minister will hold talks with the top Saudi leadership on the Yemeni situation during his visit. He will express solidarity and support to Saudi Arabia on behalf of Pakistani nation.

Earlier in the meeting, the prime minister welcomed Saudi Arabia’s decision to halt air strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, and appreciated Riyadh for pursuing political course to find solution to Yemeni crisis.

The meeting took place after the Saudi Arabia-led regional coalition ended its month-long military campaign against Shia Houthi rebels in Yemen, claiming that its ‘Operation Decisive Storm’ had achieved its goals.

It also announced the launch of the ‘Operation Restore Hope’ which would focus on a political solution in Yemen.
