144 nomination papers validated for Senate elections

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has validated 144 nomination papers of candidates submitted to contest the upcoming Senate elections.

In a statement, the ECP said that a total of 184 candidates filed their nomination papers for 52 Senate seats on which election will be held on March 5.

The ECP said that for general seats, 84 out of 116 nomination papers were validated after the scrutiny whereas 27 out of 28 nomination papers for women’s reserved seats were validated.

It said that for reserved seats for Ulema and technocrats, two nomination papers were rejected out of 26 while for reserved non-Muslim seats, three out of 12 were rejected.

Meanwhile, the Scrutiny of nomination papers for Senate election completed on Friday.

The appeals can be filed against rejection of nominations with the Secretary ECP or the concerned Provincial Election Commissioner on February 23 and 24 while appeals will be disposed of on February 26 and 27.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 28 while on the same day, the final list of candidates will be issued.

The Senate elections will take place on March 5.
