Press Briefing at Uzbekistan Embassy in Islamabad: Uzbekistan Presidential Elections to be Held on March 29, 2015

Islamabad, Pakistan: The Presidential elections of Uzbekistan will be held on March 29, 2015 and 44 polling stations have been established in Uzbek embassies and consulate all over the world to facilitate voters living abroad.
Uzbekistan embassy in Islamabad held a media briefing to explain the process of Uzbekistan Presidential election. It may be mentioned that Election rules of Uzbekistan offer to cast vote to overseas Uzbeks.

The briefing was conducted by Fakhrddin R. Parpiev ( First Secretary/DHM) who explained national media how Presidential elections would be held and what are rules and procedures of elections in Uzbekistan. People directly elect President for a term of 5 years.
In accordance with the laws, the constituencies will be established taking into account the main criteria – creating maximum comfort for voters. The electoral districts will be established at the offices of the Republic of Uzbekistan in foreign countries.

In line with the article 24 of the law “On elections of the President of Uzbekistan”, the political parties have right to nominate candidate to the post of the President and Chief Election Commission (CEC) secrutinise documents and then the list of candidates is released. After this process, the political parties start collecting signatures for their respective candidate.
The reporters at the briefing were detailed about the political parties taking part in the elections, the procedure and process of securing signatures, as well as other organizational issues related to the upcoming vote.
It may be mentioned that Political Council of the UzLiDeP has nominated current President Islam Karimov to the post of the President of Uzbekistan. The party submitted necessary documents to the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan and the Commission handed over registration certificate and signature sheets to the party. Currently, the UzLiDeP is collecting signatures in support of the Islam Karimov to the post of the President of Uzbekistan.
“The decision of UzLiDeP to nominate current President as its candidates looks logical because wide-scale reforms in Uzbekistan are conducted under the leadership of Karimov and continuation of such reforms are important to get the results”, said Agha Iqrar Haroon who is a development Observer working mostly in Central Asian countries.
He said economy of Uzbekistan grew five times during independence years (under the leadership of Karimov) and small businesses stakeholders rose twice compared to 2000 and reached over 195,000 units, indicating prosperity coming to Uzbek society and providing more chances to develop a liberal economical base.
Haroon was of the view that tourism sector became driving force of Uzbek economy during the last two decades and Uzbekistan is top destination in central Asia because President Karimov take personal interest in the development of tourism and plays proactive role in UNWTO arena.
