Fiver including three policemen killed in road incidents

KARACHI, Pakistan: At least five persons including three police personnel were killed in two separate road accidents in Sindh and Balochistan provinces.

In the first incident, three policemen were killed when their van turned turtle on Super Highway near Hyderabad, the second largest city in Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, early on Monday morning.

The incident occurred due to tyre burst of the vehicle.

Separately, two more persons lost their lives in a road accident that took place last night in Gwadar, a port city in restive Balochistan.

Police said that the victims were on way to somewhere when a vehicle hit them due to over speeding. As a result, they died on the spot.

The bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital for legal formalities while police registered a case.

Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, close to 9,000 road accidents have been reported across the country every year since 2011 which have killed over 4,500 people on an average.
