Pakistan, Russia agree on energy cooperation

MOSCOW, Russia: The third session of Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group on energy was held in Moscow during which Russia agreed to cooperate with Pakistan in energy related projects and modernization of infrastructure.

The Pakistan delegation was led by the ambassador to Russia Zaheer A. Janjua, while the Russian delegation was headed by the deputy energy minister Yury Sentyurin.

The two sides expressed willingness to cooperate in various projects in the field of oil and gas exploration, construction of floating Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals, laying of gas pipeline from Gwadar to Nawabshah, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) processing facility and others.

The Pakistan side showed keen interest in attracting Russian state energy enterprises to invest in Pakistan’s energy sector.

On Thursday, Pakistan and Russia also signed a defence cooperation agreement, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and bringing peace and stability in the region.

In a meeting with the Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu, who was in Islamabad on Thursday on a day-long visit, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan desires to boost its multi-dimensional relations including defence with Russia.
