Kerry arrives in Turkey to seek support against IS militants

ANKARA, Turkey: The US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Ankara on Friday for talks with the Turkish leaders aimed at building a coalition against Islamic State (IS) militants.

His visit comes after Turkey refused to allow the use of its air bases for launching attacks on the extremists.

During his stay in Ankara, the US secretary of state will hold meetings with the Turkish leaders including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Foreign Minister Mevlut Chavushoglu.

Kerry is touring the Middle East to establish a coalition of more than 40 countries to deal with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) crisis.

On Thursday, 10 Arab states including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirate agreed in Jeddah to rally behind Washington in the fight against IS militants.
