18th SAARC summit to be held in Nepal in November

KATHMANDU, Nepal: The 18th Summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) will be held in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu on November 26-27.

The Nepalese cabinet would make the announcement after receiving approval from other members, the media reports said citing sources in Dhaka and Kathmandu.

The two-day summit would be highly meaningful with the change of government in India. The new Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown firm commitment to strengthening relations with neighbours and invited all SAARC leaders to his oath-taking ceremony in New Delhi.

The sources said that at the upcoming summit, the leaders from SAARC countries including Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Afghanistan are expected to play a role in shaping South Asian multilateral security and development policies including placing concrete proposals for Afghanistan.
