COLOMBO: A mass grave containing the bodies of nearly 100 Muslims killed by Tamil Tiger rebels 24 years ago will be dug up in Sri Lanka on July 1, the country’s police said on Tuesday.

The statement came after a judge ordered to carry out digging following a complaint from a local resident that nearly 100 Muslims were killed by Tamil rebels in the east coast town of Kalavanchikudy in 1990 before then being buried on the beach.

In a statement, the Sri Lankan police said that security has been tightened in the area ahead of the exhumation.
