Afghan, Pakistani forces exchange of fire along border

KANDAHAR: One Afghan border police was killed and several others were badly injured when an exchange of fire took place between Afghan and Pakistani forces along the border early on Thursday, media citing local officials reported.

The Afghan officials said that the clash erupted after Pakistani forces entered the Afghan territory and opened fire with heavy weapons in the town of Maruf in the southern province of Kandahar.

The Pakistani troops reportedly wanted to create check posts on Afghanistan’s soil.

“The clash was provoked by Pakistan as they tried to enter Afghan soil to establish military installments,” provincial police chief Abdul Raziq said.
