Pakistan to face repercussions if civil war occurs in Afghanistan: FO

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office said on Thursday that Pakistan hopes there will be no civil war after the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan but in case of civil war‚ Pakistan will face repercussions

In her weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that Pakistan is in contact with Afghan authorities on border securities and effective management of western border.

The FO spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s support for Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation and peace process and said that we want peace and stability in Afghanistan as well as culmination of terrorism from the region.

The spokesperson said that Pakistan believes that after Presidential elections in Afghanistan‚ national reconciliatory efforts will continue.

Pakistan does not want to indulge in arms race with India

“Pakistan does not want to indulge in arms race,” the spokesperson said in reference to India as the largest arms buyer in the world.

However, she said, we have to maintain the minimum level of symmetry for the sake of stability and peace in the region.
