DUBAI: Former Pakistan President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf announced on Friday that he would come back to Pakistan, within a week after the interim government is installed, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.
“I have decided, in consultation with all my party leaders, I will come to Pakistan within a week after the caretaker government assumes office,” said Musharraf in a press conference in Dubai on Friday.
The chief of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) said that he would chose either place including Rawalpindi or Karachi for landing, adding that he would face the cases in the courts.
The former president faces two court warrants for his arrest in connection with the 2006 death of Akbar Bugti and the 2007 assassination of ex-prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
“I want to be put on trial for developing Pakistan, building dams, promoting agriculture and revolutionizing telecom sector. I opened 70 to 80 universities, broke the begging bowl of IMF,” Musharraf said.
“I am ready to accept the punishment if our courts want me to be tried on these reasons,” he said.
The APML chief further said that “I introduced a local body system, which developed the country at gross-root level.” “I will appear before courts. Inshahullah let’s see what happens.”
The former President announced that his party would fully take part in the upcoming elections.
Musharraf said Pakistan is passing through a critical phase and time has come for patriotic people to make a decision. “It is the duty of all patriotic people to set aside our internal conflicts and look forward to rescue Pakistan,” he said.
“I hope that people of Pakistan have awakened. People of Pakistan have realized what is right and what is wrong for them.”
Musharraf said that elections would be free and transparent if held under the Army supervision.
While addressing, he unveiled a four-point roadmap for Pakistan including internal stability, regional peace, international acceptability and socio-economic development.
“We need a change in political atmosphere. We have to bring about a third alternative, which should bring forward honest leadership to serve the poor people of Pakistan,” Musharraf said.
