Series of blasts rock Cairo; five killed, scores injured

CAIRO: A series of blast rocked the Egyptian capital of Cairo on Friday, killing at least five persons and injured scores of others.

The latest blast took place near a police station in the suburbs of Cairo, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

Before a short while, a crude explosive device killed at least one person and injured 15 others near the Behooth subway station in Cairo. But according to a conflicting report, the blast occurred in a drive-by attack on security vehicles, in which the attacker threw a hand grenade.

Earlier in the morning, a suicide car bomber blew himself up in the parking lot of the police headquarters in Cairo, killing at least four persons and injuring 73 others, the health ministry said.
