Indian army chief`s remarks could lead to deterioration of bilateral ties: Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said on Thursday the recent statement issued by Indian army chief General Bikram Singh was unfortunate and provocative, adding that such remarks could lead to deterioration of ties between the two countries.

In her weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said that Pakistan wants peace on the Line of Control (LoC) and is doing its utmost to establish peace along the de facto border diving Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

The spokesperson said that the meeting of director generals of military operations of the two countries was held recently for this very purpose.

In response to a question, the FO spokesperson said that the advisor to the prime minister on foreign affairs and national security Sartaj Aziz has left for Morocco where he will be participating in the meeting of the Al Quds committee.

The FO spokesperson said that at the meeting in Morocco, Pakistan would speak in favour of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. She said that Pakistan is against Israel’s continued construction of illegal settlements in occupied territories, adding that Jerusalem should be liberated from Israeli occupation.
