Islamabad: Chief of  Jamiat Ulemai- Islam in Pakistan Maulana Fazlur Rehman in his interview to Deevakar Anand of Tehelka do com India has said that peace is the only solution for development in South Asia.

Fazlur Rehman who was in India to attend World Peace Conference of Islamic clerics at Deoband, was asked to comment about Hindu-Muslim relations in India, he said that instead of discussing what happened in past, both nations should move forward for peace. He was of the view that governments in New Delhi and Islamabad are responsible to improve the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

When Deevakar Anand him:

“How do you see the Muzaffarnagar riots, India’s deadliest in a decade, which happened just 30 km from where we are sitting right now?”

He answered: “Right now, let’s discuss the way forward for peace, not just in India but the whole of South Asia. I have come here to meet my counterparts from the region and improve people-to-people contact between the nations”.
