ISLAMABAD: Syed Khurshid Shah, the Pakistan People Party (PPP) senior leader and Opposition Leader in National Assembly, will head the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

His nomination for the post of the PAC chairman came after consultations were held by the PPP.

The PPP had nominated Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, sister of former president Asif Ali Zardari, for the said post. However, the government insisted that the leader of opposition in the lower house of parliament be made as chairman PAC.

Later, the PPP leadership held consultations and it was decided that Syed Khurshid Shah to be given the responsibility to head the most important standing committee of the house, the PAC.

The PAC chairman, after the leader of the house and the leader of the opposition, is the most important person since his job is to keep a close watch on expenditures of the federal government.
