As we are getting closer to the general elections of 2024, many of us must be wondering about the election results—which political party will be elected for the next five years? Above all, some of us must be wondering whether the public will accept the results, or if history is going to repeat itself.

As I recall after the general election of 2013, we saw a massive campaign against the political party led by the PTI leader Imran Khan, where he convinced the public that the election was rigged.

Later, in August 2014, he started a massive campaign from Lahore to Islamabad to stage a sit-in at D-Chowk, Islamabad. The campaign was so massive that it disturbed the daily lives of the general public for about 126 days.

As Pakistanis, we can never forget the incidents that happened at D-Chowk—the destruction and everything. Although things are different this time, but are we sure that nothing will happen if the results are not what the public is expecting? And If not, what will be the consequences?

Do we, as Pakistanis, have to go through something like that again? If PML-N wins the election, do we have to go through something like that again? Or if PTI wins the election, do we have to face the rallies?

Considering that Imran Khan is in jail right now and his supporters are already not happy if the election results are not in his favor, what will happen?

It’s very unfortunate that not for once have we, as Pakistanis, accepted the election results as they are. Every time, we have something to say and state institutions to blame. Not once do we think about the consequences of blaming the system and political party. Not once do we let a political party complete five years of its tenure in peace.

The question is: will we let the next political party complete its tenure? Or will Pakistan have to go through tough times yet again with rallies and blame games?
