Dr. Asad Majeed Khan has been appointed as the new Foreign Secretary of Pakistan.ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Dr. Asad Majeed Khan has been appointed as the new Foreign Secretary of Pakistan with immediate effect.

The Establishment Division has issued the notification of the appointment of Dr. Asad Majeed Khan as the 31st Foreign Secretary.

Asad Majeed has replaced Sohail Mahmood who served the Country as the Foreign Secretary from April 17, 2019 to September 29, 2022.

Previously, Asad Majeed was posted as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belgium, the European Union and Luxembourg.

In addition, he also served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States from January 11, 2019 to March 24, 2022.

Asad Majeed Khan’s Diplomatic Career

During his diplomatic career spanning over 34 years, Ambassador Asad Majeed has held several key diplomatic assignments.

Ambassador Asad Majeed served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Japan; Additional Foreign Secretary (Americas); Director General (Americas); Director General (West Asia); Pakistan’s Charge d’ Affaires ad interim to the United States; Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Pakistan, Washington D.C.; Additional Secretary (Foreign Affairs) at the President’s Secretariat; Director General (United Nations); and Minister-Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations.

Dr. Asad Majeed holds a Doctorate in International Economic and Business Law (LL.D.) from Kyushu University, Japan and has been a resource person at a number of academic institutions.

He is married and has two children.
