Middle EastPalestinian Prime Minster Rami Hamdallah resigns

RAMALLAH, West Bank: Newly elected Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah has tendered his resignation to President Mahmoud Abbas because of a conflict over authority, the PM office says.

Former university dean Rami Hamdallah submitted his resignation just after two weeks on the job as he took office on June 6 after being picked by the President to replace internationally known Salam Fayyad who stepped down in April after a long-running dispute with President Abbas.

The President Abbas gave Hamdallah two deputies, one for political and one for economic affairs, apparently to make up for his political inexperience.

Hamdallah “presented his resignation in writing to the president following disagreements with his two deputies”, an official told the foreign news agency.

It was not clear whether Abbas would accept the resignation. His office declined comment.
