ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has termed as entirely baseless the claim that the Cypher Communication received from the Embassy in Washington was ‘hidden’ from the Foreign Minister or Prime Minister.

“Such a question simply does not arise,” the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said on Tuesday while responding to media questions.

The Spokesperson said that the Foreign Office operates on professional basis and it would be detrimental to cast aspersions on its working.

The clarification came in reference to the claim by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that the Cypher, an encoded diplomatic cable outlining the details of the meeting between the US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu with Pakistan Embassy Officials in Washington and sent by Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan, was initially being hidden from the former Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
