LAHORE, Pakistan: The NOP (National Outreach Program) is a bridge for both accessibility and diversity at LUMS as it extends financial support to scholars nationwide for the last 21 years.

The DWP Group became a part of this program as a sponsor in 2017. To date, 29 scholars have benefitted from DWP scholarships at LUMS.

The DWP Group is a leading technology company in Pakistan with core businesses in Home Appliances, HVAC, and ICT industries.

An acknowledgment ceremony was held at LUMS on September 22, 2021 in honour of the DWP Group’s support.

The ceremony included an interactive session between the scholarship recipients and the DWP Foundation to discuss their challenges and opportunities at LUMS.

Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, the Director, gave a presentation on LUMS, the NOP program, and the DWP Group & LUMS relationship over the years.

Dr. Muhammad Awais Bin Altaf, Assistant Professor of Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), spoke on research initiatives in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Mr. Shahid Hussain, the Rector, spoke about the core principles of merit undertaken at LUMS; starting from the selection of students to hiring& promotion of world-class faculty members.

Dr. Arshad Ahmad, the Vice-Chancellor LUMS, spoke about the long-term association of LUMS with the DWP Group. He said that LUMS strives to have a cohort of world-class faculty and emphasized the industry link with LUMS, building partnerships with the corporate industry of Pakistan like DWP Group.

Speaking on behalf of the DWP Group, Mr. Farooq Naseem, said, “At LUMS there is optimism and energy which we would like to spread all across Pakistan”.

The DWP Group’s CSR arm, the DWP Foundation currently has a portfolio around healthcare and education sectors and the investments in these causes have crossed PKR 500 million. DWP Group has replicated similar scholar sponsorships at IBA Karachi, NUST, and IBA Sukkur. Mr. Naseem added that “we would like to support scholars from the underprivileged backgrounds from all over Pakistan and play our part in contributing towards inclusive education”.

Syed Babar Ali, the Founding Pro-chancellor, commended DWP’s zeal to give back towards society and thanked them for their support in promoting LUMS’s mission forward.

Mrs. Roohi Farooq Naseem, Mr. Imtiaz Pervez, Mr. Arshad Nasir, and Mr. Sabah-ud-din Ranaon on behalf of DWP Foundation, and Dr. Farhat Haq, Provost, and other senior faculty members of LUMS also attended the meeting.
